Tsiala (the mother): “Before the surgery, the doctor told me: ‘Keep in mind, I’m taking him in, and I will return him twice as tall as before.’ Seeing my son standing up straight is indescribable!” For all of his 17 years, Shalva walked with bent legs due to cerebral palsy, leaning on his mother or grandmother’s hand. And for all those 17 years, he dreamed of standing up straight, walking on straight legs. A few days ago, the family experienced that thrilling, long-awaited moment. For the first time, Shalva’s mother, grandmother, and the entire family saw him as he was meant to be – tall, stately as a cypress, and with the happiest smile. The entire country helped Shalva get on his feet. Friends of the Chernovetskyi Fund funded the surgery in Yerevan.
“He’s now taller than me and his mother! – says grandmother Manana. – This is the greatest day in our and his life!”

He is an orphan with living parents. Zuriko has been raised by his grandmother since birth. His mother couldn’t, and his father didn’t want to take on that responsibility. So, he ended up alone with his grandmother in a dilapidated house. His mother started a new family, and his father doesn’t even show interest in his son… only his grandmother, Marina, remains as his one true family on this earth. They are always together, sharing the same fears. Ten-year-old Zuriko is afraid that his grandmother might die from her worries, while Grandma Marina fears losing her grandson to hunger, illness, she is afraid that their roof could collapse over their heads. Neither of them could survive on their own, and even if they could – what’s the point of such life?

Little Ioseb’s bones break from the seizures! If we don’t help now, his suffering will make his entire family the most miserable in the world!
​Poor Ioseb experiences terrible pain from an epileptic seizure. One year ago, the convulsions twisted his muscles so much that his leg broke from the tension… can you imagine how he suffers and what pain the little one has to endure! Not every adult could endure it! ! His muscles tense as if they want to break all the bones. But the most terrible pain is the pain of a loving mother witnessing her son’s suffering! It’s painful for both Ioseb and his mother. Watching this is the ultimate punishment on earth! Poor little one, he suffers so much.

Joseph (father): Of course, as a healthy man, I could go to Tbilisi or abroad to work and send money. But then my son will die! I know it for sure! He’s also with a soul, and he loves me very much! I feel it with all my heart… He won’t live a day without my care and love!

The hands of the Lord won’t let Mirian depart our world completely: he wavers between life and death, as his sorrowful mother sheds tears. What anguish! Yet, none of the doctors in Georgia, unfortunately, can answer the main question, a dilemma increasingly faced in the foundation’s practice: to live or leave this world for the child? Why did the kidneys fail in this once-beautiful, perfectly healthy boy? Right now, the little one is on dialysis. It’s such an expensive, complex, and painful procedure, which temporarily sustains Mirian’s life! But who can say how many days or months this “temporary” will last? Certainly not in Georgia! Mirian’s mother knows only one thing: if dialysis isn’t done every day, his kidneys will fail, and Mirian will die.
